We spent the day with Opa, exploring some of the local sights, including the town of Giethoorn which is uses canals as streets (like Venice).

On our last Sunday, we visited the town of Staphorst where the locals still dress in their traditional garb. The locals don't appreciate being ogled, so we just photographed houses.

Friesland is a province where some folks speak a different language: Frisian. It's very beautiful! We finally took an opportunity to photograph a windmill up close and personal.

After several days in Grongingen, we left for Friesland. We made a detour, and went to see the Afsluitdijk, a 32 km enclosure dam that protects a large portion of the Netherlands.
